Because I have the most wonderful and caring husband in the world, he arranged for us to go to a taping of the Dr. Phil show today. They said that we had to be there between 7:30 and 8:30 in the morning. The show gets taped in Hollywood about 75 miles away and after 6 years of living in California, I had never been to Hollywood (gasp). So we drop Jack off at daycare at 5:30 (thank you Pat for taking him so early!) and head there. We think that 2 hours to get there should be good. But however, this is LA and the rule is that you must not average more than 20 miles an hour ever.
We also chose the day to go to LA when there was a deadly Metro train crash. Some stupid idiot who thought that he would kill himself by parking his SUV on the train tracks, but instead jumped out at the last minute thereby saving himself. But ended up killing at least 10 and probably more and injuring hundreds more. Seriously, this crash was horrible and I truly hope that they charge that stupid idiot with all those people's murder. Those poor people were just on their way to work and then this happens. You just never know when the next instant is going to change your life forever like that.
Anyway, back to Dr. Phil. So because of the train crash and well LA being LA (yes I hate LA) we did not show up at Paramount Studios until 8:35. And well, yes Jim and I are also idiots. We show up at the parking garage and the attendant is there to gather $5 from us for parking and lo and behold neither one of us has any cash! I had a $1 bill and we were seriously scrounging through the change drawer to pay for the stupid parking. We hardly ever carry cash with us these days since ATM is everywhere. That will teach us huh!
So we get parked and of course it is raining. That means that I will have "rained on hair" for national tv (yay!). We run across the street and get all signed in. They take our cell phones away from us (who knew?) and say we can get them back after the show. Then we are ushered into the audience waiting area for about 30 minutes. Guess we didn't have to rush after all. And at this point, we have no idea what the topic of the show is going to be. I went to the restroom and of course they have like 4 stalls and there is a line out the door. Then when I got inside the bathroom, it felt so like junior high. All the women were primping in front of the mirror. I swear I had flashbacks to junior high dances and all the girls in the bathroom getting ready.
Then we get seated in the studio and of course we get the very back row on the right side of the studio. But it was cool - it looked just like on tv. Go figure. Then the people come out whose job it is to get the audience all revved up. And oh yeah did I also mention that the studio is like 60 degrees! I mean my teeth were chattering.
So then the show starts, and the topic is In-Law Intervention. It was about this family where the two mothers in law are actually totally witches but with the b. They were constant fighting and it was actually pretty funny in a few places and very interesting. It was pretty fun experience all in all.
Then we went to the Chinese Mann Theatre and walked the hall of fame. Saw the stars on the sidewalk, had some lunch and headed home. Pretty fun day. But my heart goes out to those poor people on the train and their families.
In the Jack news department - Jack has a pretty bad diaper rash. He has been relatively lucky regarding the diaper rashes until this one. But the poor little thing was screaming everytime he would go pee pee in this diaper. And the diaper rash stuff I have is not cutting it. I think I need to go get some Butt Paste (yes it really is called that for those not in the know about such stuff.)
So that was my day and yay I get to go back to work tomorrow.

Wonderful Sunday morning
For those that are stuck in blizzards and under feet of snow, I am really sorry and you may not want to read further. But here in sunny California, it actually is sunny and oh so beautiful. So I got Jack out today and we took a walk down the sidewalk. He was walking with his little hippo walker and I was snapping pictures like yes the mad mom I am with camera.
Then we came back after walking down the sidewalk and back and I put Jack in the stroller and off we went to walk around the neighborhood for about 30 minutes. I love days like this you just feel so alive. Jack being his friendly little self waved at just about anything including sign posts, houses, cars and the occassional neighbor we saw. He is also saying hi when he waves. It doesn't matter if the sign post waves back or says hi, he is still very friendly to it.
All this fresh air and sunshine (again I am sorry for those in the blizzard) has got me in gear to get out backyard completed. We have this half acre lot with this huge backyard that is just begging to be Jack's personal play heaven, but at the moment it is just dirt and about 2 weeks ago it was mud city. We want to put a pool in someday, but right now with Jack so little, it scares me having a pool. You hear about toddlers drowning all the time in the family pool and I just don't want to take the risk quite yet. But we do plan to put one of those really cool jungle gym things. The one with a fort, slide, swings, and climbing wall. It makes the swing set that I grew up with look pretty pathetic. We also want to build a sand pit underneath it so it will double as a sand box and a soft place to land when he falls. Yes I know it is inevitable. But I really can't wait for those days to watch him out there playing. And of course, I will be the mad mom with camera when it does happen.

You know you are in California when...
I recently received this in my email from my mother who knows how much I love California (not). I would love to leave this state but there are forces beyond my control keeping us here at least for the next few years. But I was reading Erin's site and seeing her pictures of the snow there and made me kind of miss the seasons that the rest of the country has. So I thought I would post this and let me tell you that it is sooo true, yes it is funny, but unfortunately it is true.
You know you are in California when
1. Your coworker has 8 body piercing's and none are visible.
2. You make over $300,000 and still can't afford a house.
3. You take a bus and are shocked at two people carrying on a conversation in English.
4. Your child's 3rd-grade teacher has purple hair, a nose ring, and is named Flower.
5. You can't remember . . . . is pot illegal?
6. You've been to a baby shower that has two mothers and a sperm donor.
7. You have a very strong opinion about where your coffee beans are grown, and you can taste the difference between Sumatran and Ethiopian.
8. You can't remember . . is pot illegal?
9. A really great parking space can totally move you to tears.
10. Gas costs $1.00 per gallon more than anywhere else in the U.S. (I paid $1.89 yesterday and thought that was a bargain.)
11. Unlike back home, the guy at 8:30 am at Starbucks wearing a baseball cap and sunglasses who looks like George Clooney really IS George Clooney.
12. Your car insurance costs as much as your house payment.
13. You can't remember . . . .is pot illegal?
14. It's barely sprinkling rain and there's a report on every news station: "STORM WATCH."
15. You pass an elementary school playground and the children are all
busy with their cells or pagers.
16. It's barely sprinkling rain outside, so you leave for work an hour early to avoid all the weather-related accidents.
17. HEY!!!! Is pot illegal????
18. Both you AND your dog have therapists.
19. The Terminator is your governor.
20. If you drive illegally, they take your driver's license. If you're here illegally, they want to give you one.

What a weird day
Today was just a plain weird day, no other way to explain it. The day started off by finding out that I had no daycare at 7:00 this morning. Mam had to take her mother to the hospital and I really hope that everything worked out okay with that today. My backup daycare is my friend Janet who is about 20 miles out of my way, but she's somebody I trust with Jack. However, she was not available today. So I was faced with a dilemma. I called my boss on his cell phone and explained my problem and he told me that I could bring the boy into the office. Now for those who have 10 month olds, you all know how easy (NOT) to do anything with them around, let alone get any work done. But since the entire office has been out sick this week, I really needed to go in - baby and all. So Jack and I went in and he was actually a lot better than I thought he was. He sat in his stroller for a couple hours and played with post-it notes, file folders, and anything else he could get his hands on from my desk. Then he actually fell asleep and took a nap for about an hour and after he woke up, I decided I had enough and left about 2 hours early.
The other thing that happened this morning as I was trying to decide how to solve my daycare problem was the cat decided to bring a LIVE gopher into the house. We have a doggie/kitty door installed mainly for the dogs to come and go as they want so I don't have to watch for the 10 second "sign" that they need to do their business and if I missed it, well they would do their business inside. So the doggie door has helped in that regard. However, it has now opened up the possibilities of having all kinds of critters in our house. So I am in the kitchen trying to feed Jack and I look up and see something move across the family room floor and yes it was a gopher who was absolutely terrified. I never thought that gophers could have expressions, but this one had an expression of terror. Kinda sad. The cat was playing with him and batting him all over the place. Then he proceeded to kill the poor gopher right there in front of my eyes (nice) and thought he would have a tasty treat. Well after running all over the house after the damn cat with the gopher in its mouth, I finally was able to grab the feline with said gopher in mouth and threw them out the door. So yes there was a murder in my family room this morning. Gross Gross Gross.
And for those who have been on the look out for new pictures, yes I do have new pictures. They were taken this morning when Jack was sleeping. He looked so precious, I couldn't resist. Enjoy.

Amazing 5 hour nap
Yay today was my day off. I am already missing my Mondays off also, but the pay is gonna keep us out of the poor farm so that is a good thing. But I was all set to have a really fun time with Jack today. Last night I was sooo tired and all I could think about when I was coming home from work was how many hours until I could go to sleep. So of course of all nights, Jack picks last night to be wide awake at 9:00. I tried to put him down at 7:30 his normal bedtime, but he just laid there and laughed his little head off and then when I turned to leave his room he screamed his little head off. So instead of me going to bed at 7:30 which I really really wanted to do, I was up with a wide awake Jackaroo. He did finally go down about 9:15 thank heavens. But that gets me back to today. I had planned to go out and hit up the library story time and check out some children's books and just have a fun day with my little boy. But Jack had another plan. He woke up this morning at 5:30 in the grumpiest mood he's been in a very long time and proceeded to get even grumpier. So I figured at 7:30 he needed to go back to bed, but nope he was too grumpy to go down. So we played with toys, or I should say I played with toys while he sat and was his little grumpy self watching me. At 8:30 I put him back in his crib and shut the door. Of course he started crying but that didn't last too long and the boy was thankfully and mercfully sleeping again. Now usually his morning nap is like about one or two hours long, so I was thinking he would be up around 10:00 and we could head out. The boy slept for 5 hours! He didn't wake up until 1:30 in the afternoon. And let me tell you that was sooo weird. I mean I had time to do laundry, vacuum, clean the kitchen, surf the internet and then around noon I was wondering what to do with myself. I mean I can't remember having 5 whole hours to myself since having Jack! What a weird feeling.
On another front, the weather here has been absolutely fabulous. And I know that some of you are reading this from cold and snowy places and I feel for you, I really do. But today it was in the 80's. After Jack finally woke up, I went to the post office and the grocery store in shorts and a t-shirt. And when daddy got home, we all went for a walk, including the dogs. What a nice change from the torrential downpour we had not too long ago.
And I know I promised more pictures. The problem is I just can't seem to get a good picture of the boy these days. I mean he will not stop moving and all the pictures I do take usually have the back of Jack as he is crawling away, or half a Jackaroo face as he is distracted by something that is not the camera. I mean seriously I probably deleted 15 pictures today. But I will try, I promise!

No Internet?!?
Yesterday our dsl was down and I found out just how truly addicted I am to the internet. Yes I am a junkie. I was going through major withdrawals. No checking up on my Jackaroo World or any other favorite blogs of mine. No email, no mindless stupid game playing, ack! But anyway I called up Verizon to report that the internet was not working and he went through the usual bs about this or that and said he would report the problem. At the end of the call he asked if there was anything else he could help with and I said no just fix my internet. Then he made the most stupidest remark ever. Now remember, I am calling because I can not get on the internet and what does he say to me "You can also contact us on the internet by going to verizongdsl.com". Um... you just have to shake your head.
To the grandparents out there, I do promise to post new pictures soon. I admit I have been kind of lax in my picture taking lately. I went to our outlets yesterday and bought some new clothes for the Jackaroo. He has one very spiffy looking jean jacket from Osh Kosh. I am really liking the Osh Kosh clothes because they aren't so cutsie like Carters clothes. I will have to say that he will be one styling kid on the upcoming cruise. And of course a ton of pictures will be taken.

Work and Vacations
I am working 4 days a week again starting next week. In some ways I am happy about it because then it means a significant amount of money increase in the monthly budget. But I have gotten used to spending that extra day with my little Jackaroo. I really like spending the days with him when it is just him and I. I feel like we really bond during those times. And even though I know he won't remember these days when he gets older, I just want him to know that his mommy will always be there for him. But at the same time, I do enjoy my job and the company I work for is undergoing a major expansion and it is exciting to be a part of the growth. So I am torn between wanting to spend more time with my little guy, making more money, and challenging myself in my career. I guess it is all part of being a mother. We are torn in too many directions.
On another front, we have decided to take Jack with us on a cruise in April. We had booked this cruise about 6 months ago and kinda thought at the time that we would go without Jack and leave him with family or close friends. But when I actually sat down and thought about being apart from my little guy for 10 whole days, I just couldn't do it. I mean I can't wait to rush out of the office to go pick him up from daycare and that is just after 8 hours! So he is coming with us and now that we have made the decision, I am getting really excited to take him. I know it is going to be harder with all the baby gear we need to take, but I really can't wait to see him charming all the fellow passengers on the ship. As soon as we decided that Jack was going, my mind was in overdrive making lists of what to pack and buy. In about 3.2 seconds, I figured I needed about 50 diapers so therefore 1 package of 54 should do and for baby wipes should I just take a few of the small packages of baby wipes or the big refill size and just refill the small wipes container. Then my brain moved to strollers - oh we need to buy an umbrella stroller so it won't take up room. And the car seat, which car seat should we take - probably the one out of the truck, it is easier to handle. Hmm maybe we should buy one of those backpack baby carrier things for Jim to carry Jack or will the stroller be good? Then the thoughts moved on to which toys should we take and which suitcase should I pack Jack's stuff in. All these thoughts in a span of oh say 3 minutes. Scary how my mind works. And oh boy is my mind in overdrive just thinking about the outfits I can buy for him to wear!!! Look out Carters, Osh Kosh, Old Navy here I come buying baby clothes!!! Now see thats another change since having a baby, it used to be MY clothes would be the first thing that came to mind, now it is his clothes!

Verizon DSL Commercial???
Okay, what is so exciting or intriguing about the Verizon DSL commercial? Every single time and I mean every single time it comes on, Jack will drop everything and anything he is doing and intently watch this commercial. It does have James Earl Jones on there talking and who knows maybe he knows that is the voice of Darth Vadar? But whatever it is, it sure captivates the boy for the entire 30 seconds it is playing. Then after it is done, he goes back to whatever he was doing and couldn't care less about any other commercial. Just makes you wonder what in the world babies think about.

Water, Water Everywhere
Okay okay, I know I did a little bit of ranting in a post a few days ago about the raining here in California and for people to just stop complaining and deal with the rain. Well, I probably should eat those words because I am going to start complaining about the rain. We have had 17 inches of rain in the past 2 weeks!!! I mean from Friday until this morning, I really don't think it stopped raining at all. And when I mean raining, I mean like downpour rain. There was one point when I could swear we had like 1 inch come down in a 15 minute period. And where does all this water go? Well today near my work, I saw small planes parked on city streets because the airport nearby was flooded. The road near our house is covered with mud and muck from the hill nearby. Thankfully, we weren't covered by mud like some of the unfortunate people here in California. So yes, it has been terrible and I take back my rant a few days ago.
In the Jackaroo news, he is being his little charming self. We went to the mall yesterday and let me tell you, my son is already looking at the girls! Everytime a cute little girl would go by in another stroller, he would have to give her a double look and his head would turn so fast to look at the girls. He's already cruising the mall for girls! Geesh!
Well I need to go because right now the boy is trying his best to unplug thc computer, press every single key on the keyboard and really wants to examine this thing called a mouse. So before I totally lose this post, I'll call it good for now.

Was it really 1 year ago?
It was 1 year ago today that Jim and I went to get the 4D ultrasound done. I remember being so excited about this because as soon as I found out about these amazing ultrasounds when I was newly pregnant, I knew I had to do it. So the time finally came to see our Jackaroo up close and personal. Of course, Jack wouldn't cooperate even back then. He was moving so much that we couldn't get really good pictures. Even back then, he wouldn't sit still and I remember having this feeling of things to come. Even the ultrasound tech said that he was "one active baby". Sure enough, he can't sit still today.
It just amazes me how in 1 year he can go from these pictures in the womb to the Jackaroo that we all love and cherish today. What a year!
I almost posted the picture of what I looked like on that day, but I am not ready for the entire world to see that. Very scary!
In other news... Jack said another word today. He now says "ki ki" for kitty. So he now has in his vocabulary mama (which he mainly says when he's angry, nice to know he thinks of me when he's angry) and he has said dada a few times and ki ki. I could of sworn that he said apple the other day, but I might of imagined the whole thing. Who knows.

Double Digit Months!
Today my baby turns 10 months old! That is double digit months. That is like almost a whole year old!!! He is not so much of a baby anymore. Where did the time go? He is growing up so fast. He has been standing on his own more and more lately, so I think that a walking Jack is coming up. I want him to walk but I have to admit, it scares me. I can't hardly keep up with him crawling let alone walking and eventually running all over the place - geesh!
I was also thinking last night that I miss the little baby who used to lay in my arms for hours. Now he has to go go go. The kid can not sit still to save his life. He is not a snuggly baby, he doesn't have time for that. So what I will do is sit on the floor with him and he will crawl over and curl up in my lap and then 10 seconds later, he's off to the next adventure. At least I get that 10 seconds :) I know soon enough he will think he won't need me around. Sniff Sniff.

Lazy Rainy Day
This is a day when I am so glad that I don't work on Mondays. It is pouring here yet again and I am having a very lazy day. Jack and I have had a very busy itenary so far today. We woke up and watched Mommy take a shower while playing with all kinds of cool bathroom things. The bathroom scale is the coolest - according to Jack, not according to Mommy. Then we settled down and had a baba while watching Sesame Street. We got really excited when Grover came on and then even more excited when Elmo came on. After Sesame Street, we had some Oatmeal and Cheerios - a very yummy breakfast. Then came time to play in the kitchen cabinets, this includes bringing every single piece of tupperware out and inspecting each piece. The tupperware inspection takes a good 7 minutes and then its onto the pots and pans which stay in the cabinet, but need to be inspected none the less. All this is done while Mommy is trying to clean up the kitchen - not successfully of course. So Mommy gives this up and decide to go play in the family room with the 3000 toys there. We then set about to play for about 45 mins and then that wonderful time came. The time that all Mommy's wish for and adore when it is here - NapTime!
He slept for about an hour and a half, during which Mommy actually was able to clean the kitchen, vacuum, and do a load of laundry. Then came that little squeal that signaled that naptime was indeed done. Next came a di-di change (poopy one if anybody cares) and onto lunch time. For lunch we had a half a banana and some yogurt. These are two of his favorite things. Then yay playtime again. This time we played with the Possessed Walking Pooh and his dump truck and the train block set thingy, along with the most cherished toy of all - The Learning table! All this was done with of course Sesame Street playing on the tv. Of course, we had to stop and watch during the really important parts.
Then Mommy decided to get on the computer while Jack was playing/watching tv. Well that ended with me pulling the Jack out of the wires underneath the desk about 6 times and trying to figure out how he cut the internet connection (unplugged it). Well so much for the computer. Then we had another baba and played and watched more tv. Walked around the house with the Hungry Hippo thingy for a few minutes, tortured the dogs, tortured the cat, looked outside at the rain, babbled at the rain, I babbled at the rain also. And what is this? Is it that time again? Yes it is NapTime!
So here I am on the computer and the kid is sleeping. Gotta love that. I do really love spending time with Jack and playing with him. But not sure I could be a stay at home mom (SAHM). Not sure I have it in me. I think the 3 days that I do work bring me sanity. Uhoh, what do I hear - yep Naptime is officially over. This one was a whole 30 minutes. Yay. See Ya Laters.

That #@^& Remote Control
At least that is what Jack was saying about the remote we give him to play with. Last night we were watching tv (FX show about small pox really good but scary) and of course Jack is after the remote control. I guess he wanted to watch something else. So we gave him the dvd remote which is pretty harmless to play with. Well he was sitting on my lap and I was trying to get him to get sleepy and not succeeding of course. He then hit his head with the remote control pretty hard and he just looked at the thing and you could tell he was mad and then he started to make this growling sound at it. You could just tell he was totally cussing out that remote control for hitting HIS head. How dare it. Ahhh to be a baby and blame all your problems on inanimate objects.

We rung in the New Year ... The East Coast New Year that is
Well we in the Jackaroo household really tried to ring in the New Year, but gave it up. We saw the New York ball drop and figured that was good and went to bed. Sad, but 9:00 pm around here these days is staying up late. Sad sad sad I know.
We did have a good New Years Eve however. We opened a bottle of sparkling cider and toasted the new year. Even Jack had a little bit of the cider and then complained when he wasn't given more.
I have been working with the new digital camcorder. I figured out how to download the videos into a MPEG file and able to edit and add all the really cool effects and stuff. However I do not know or understand how to get the sound when taking the video to download into the file. I posted a link to the video hosting site and theres one short video on there. It is of Jack and Laura having fun yesterday morning. And I really wanted to have everyone hear his little giggle because it is hilarious. But for the life of me I do not understand how to attach the sound onto the file.
Any multimedia experts out there know how to do this please email me theclaytons@gmail.com and let me know. I am dumbfounded at the moment. Not to mention in a pretty ugly mood about it yesterday.
I hope everybody had a safe and fun New Years.
