We have had Laura staying with us for the past two weeks and it is great having her here. She really is a joy to have in the house and a great big help to her little brother. And Jack, oh boy that kid loves his big "Sissy". However, the reason why she has been staying with us for all this time is because her mother has colon cancer and is in the hospital. And it looks like she is not doing very well and will have to be in the hospital for a while longer. So Laura is going to live with us for a few more weeks, if not permanently. I have to give Laura credit because she is being a very brave little girl through all of this or at least keeping up a brave front. But I know she is scared and worried about her mother so I have been trying to do more "step-mother and daughter" things. My heart goes out to this little 9 year old girl that I love almost as much as Jack.
So because she is staying with us now, that means that suddenly working has become very very difficult. How do mothers of school age children work in the summer? I don't know what we are going to do with her. Also she has chearleading practice every Monday and Wednesday for 2 1/2 hours. So how do you be a soccer mom, or in this case a chearleading mom, while you work 32+ hours a week? And take care of your 15-month old infant who is very sick with strep throat at the moment? And while her father is working overtime almost everyday that is mandatory? Oy!
